Although we started off our California vacation with unexpected, but much needed rain, the weather gods have been more than kind to us since. We have had sunny weather with temperatures in the high 60's all the way up to 80 some degrees tomorrow. Perfect for the sightseeing and walking that we've been doing this week. Again we'll try to give you the abbreviated version of this past week.
Sunday we went to church and then had a lovely brunch at the French Gourmet, a restaurant one block down from the condo. In the afternoon, Chris and Jason came over and brought a delicious dinner and we had fun visiting and enjoying the hot tub.
Monday we took the bus downtown and took an extensive tour of the Aircraft Carrier Midway - it was very interesting and informative. We strolled along the Embarcadero, ate dinner at Busters and explored the Gas Lamp Quarter a bit.

Tuesday I walked about 4 miles. First I went to the Post Office and then did some window shopping down Garnet Street. I didn't stimulate San Diego's economy "yet" but there is still time. Ron and I walked back down to Garnet for "Taco Tuesday" dinner at Cabo Cantina. We met Chris and enjoyed the margaritas and all you can eat tacos.
Wednesday we started our day at the Broken Yolk helping them celebrate their 35th anniversary. They had 99 cent mimosas and $3.50 breakfasts. I had the 4 egg omelet with avocado, onions, peppers, salsa, hash browns and toast. Ron had something similar. We were stuffed. From there we road the bus to La Jolla and then walked around the waterfront and watched the seals. When we got home we went across the street again to the Café Europa for Happy hour and to listen to Eduardo. We didn't stay too long as they were having the taste of Pacific Beach and we were too full to participate. I did enjoy seeing the monster paella that they had prepared though.

Thursday we walked 8 miles - down to Mission Bay and past Belmont Park - we looked at some possible rental spots for next year - but we are very happy with where we are. Ron went on the old wooden roller coaster comparing it to the old wooden one on Coney Island. He says he's officially a bi-coaster. After stopping for some pizza we came home and enjoyed the hot tub. While in the tub we met an interesting fellow condo dweller from China who worked for Citibank and now has homes in San Diego and Key West. It's interesting to see how the other half lives, especially as he uses this condo for a few weeks and leaves his Porsche parked in the garage.

Friday was another walking day. We have been enjoying eating out but we have been counteracting it with some really long walks. Instead of heading for the beach today we turned right and went to a place called Bird Rock - on the way to La Jolla. We checked out the business district, walked by the beach and looked at all the beautiful houses and then decided to walk "around the block". It ended up being another 7 - 8 mile walk at lot of it up hill but through some areas of exquisite homes and scenery. Back "home" it was in the hot tub again before we took off again for dinner on the strip and ice cream on the walk home. We're getting our money's worth out of the Entertainment Book with their 2 for 1 specials!!

Saturday Chris and I went for a girls day - getting mani/pedis and the boys went for haircuts. After we had lunch at DeMille Restaurant, an Italian restaurant. The deep dish pizza was great. From there it was more walking. We were just looking at neighborhoods and seeing what the housing market is like in San Diego - ouch!
That's it for this week. We are half way through our California experience. We'll bring you up to date again next week.
