Week 1 - San Diego

We don't want to bore you with the minutia of our everyday lives but we'll fill you in on how we've been spending our time since we last blogged. In our first full week we have explored the neighborhood and familiarized ourselves with the area, tested the transit system (to see if, in future tears, we could fly out and get around without a car), found a local church, grocery store, hair dresser and post office. We took our bikes in to change a flat since we want to be able to bike to some of our destinations and have had a chance to spend time with Chris and Jason.  We  went to watch one of Chris' soccer games and watched Jason perform with two of this improv groups at a comedy club near Chris' house. We found a wonderful restaurant, the Café Bar Europa, just across the street. They have tapas, sangria, tortilla española and a wonderful guitarist that plays on Wed.- so I think we will return. We also found a hipster place near Crystal Pier that has 1/2 price wings all day on Thurs. And every place we go seems to carry local micro brewed beer - so we have to try them, right?  We spent a day at Balboa Park enjoying the gardens and the Timken Art Gallery. There is so much to see we definitely will be going back.  Of course, we spent some time walking the beach, reading, and watching the birds and surfers.  Today we spent the day with Chris and Jason at the San Diego Zoo and went for pizza after.  The weather has been wonderful.  After it got the few days of rain out of its system we have certainly been spoiled this week.  The forecast is calling for more of the same - it was 77 today and will be 82 tomorrow and then low to mid 70's for the rest of the week.  We are enjoying seeing so many flowers in bloom already.  Hopefully we can bring some of this good weather back with us when we come to Northern New York in April.  I'll leave you with some pictures to sum up our first week here in sunny San Diego, California.
