Day 7 - Forrest City, Arkansas to Tucumcari, New Mexico

Up and out again by 8:00 headed west on Rt. 40.  Didn't realize that this is a portion of the historic Rt. 66. We also passed by Henryetta, Oklahoma, home of Troy Aikman. See what interesting things you learn while on a road trip. Today we started in Arkansas, traveled through Oklahoma and Texas and ended up in New Mexico. That makes 9 states (most of them red) since leaving New York.

The weather was clear and sunny - perfect for traveling. As we drove we saw lots of big churches, casinos, listened to Christian music and NPR instead of country and Rush Limbaugh, saw oil wells, windmills(1,000's), lots of flat land and observed that motorcyclists don't wear helmets in Oklahoma.  With the land so flat, it is interesting as you look in the rear view mirror and see night falling behind you while still daylight in front of you.  Pulling into off the beaten path gas stations is always a "cultural" experience with the colorful locals.

We saw many, many windmills along the way

Didn't quite make it to Albuquerque but we did drive for 11 1/2 hours to Tucumcari NM and that was enough for today. So far we have driven  2450 miles since our original gas fill up at the reservation half way between our folks homes.  BTW gas cost me 3.11 in Texas and 3.14 in Oklahoma.  We probably won't make the 1100+ miles to get to Yosemite tomorrow but we'll be close and still on schedule to arrive in San Diego next Saturday.

Couldn't get the Duke game on the radio but we did watch the last minute when we got to our room.  I think Boehiem had a stroke ... Tee-hee.  Go Duke.

Went next door to Del's for a Mexican dinner. They were the #1 restaurant in New Mexico in 2011.  (All Mexican taste the same to me(Ron) but it was gooooood. When in Rome.

That's all for now going to make it an early night.
